43: The Education of a President
I can't remember what exactly drove me to write this novel.  I do think I was discouraged a bit after writing "Left Behind," and thought it would be good therapy to lighten up a bit.  I've always loved humorous historical novels, especially the ones by John Barth and Gore Vidal.  I've also enjoyed all of the Bob Woodward, fly-on-the-wall, "I've got access you can only dream of" series of books on the Bush administration, and decided to pay homage to these as well.
So, I decided to rewrite the story of George W. Bush from the events of 9/11 until the election of 2004 as I would have liked to have seen them.  The idea for the dream sequences came because my daughters were involved in a musical theater production of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" at the time and the play was constantly on my mind.
I have attempted a Herculean task here: to remake George W. Bush into a sympathetic character that hopefully everyone who reads this will be pulling for in the end.  This especially includes those who never liked him or learned to dislike him along the way.
I hope you enjoy this novel and laugh a lot along the way.  It is all in good fun, and any resemblence to the real people named in this book is merely coincedental.
